Roberto Correia nasceu no Funchal a 8 de Agosto de 1980, tendo tido o seu percurso escolar e académico na mesma cidade. Expõe de forma colectiva e individual desde 2007. Desse percurso destacam-se as exposições individuais de 2009, a Instalação “Pop Danger” no Salão Nobre do Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias e em 2007, “Era uma vez uma Maçã…”, na Galeria ArtFórum.
Roberto Correia was born on August 1980, in Funchal, city where he remained throughout his entire academic curse. He has been exhibiting individually and collectively since 2007. His most distinguished work is the Pop Danger Installation in The Municipal Theater Baltazar Dias, in 2007 and “Era uma vez uma Maçã…”, in the Art Forum Gallery, in 2009.
“Filhinho vem para a cozinha que ele vai começar a guinchar.” Esta foi a frase que a minha tia-avó Ângela Andrade, ou só tia Ângela, disse-me faz muitos anos. Por alturas do Natal havia a matança do porco, na minha família acontecia na casa da tia Ângela. Era uma grande reunião de familiares e conhecidos, mote para o convívio de irmãos, tios, primos e mais primos, dos mais novos aos mais velhos, onde muito se falava mas sobretudo ria-se. Tendo o tema da matança do porco em mente, homenageio de certa maneira esses momentos que agora fazem parte de um passado que embora já pareça longínquo, voltam ao presente por um simples guinchar.
“Sonny, come to the kitchen ‘cause it’s going to start screeching.” This was the phrase that my grand aunt Ângela Andrade or aunt Ângela, told me many years ago. By Christmas time there’s the killing of the pig; in my family, it took place in aunt Ângela’s house. It was a big reunion of family members and acquaintances, motive for brothers, uncles, cousins and more cousins, from the youngest to the oldest, to spend time together, where there was a lot of talking but most of all, laughter. Having the theme of the killing of the pig in mind, it’s in homage, in a certain way, to those moments that, though it seems they’re a part of a distant past, they return to the present by the simple sound of a screech.
