Gonçalo Martins nasceu a 1976 na cidade do Porto e reside na Ilha da Madeira. É Licenciado em Artes Plásticas e dedicou parte da sua vida às Artes, nomeadamente ao “shape” de pranchas, à pintura e escultura. É considerado um artista de intervenção “Site Specific” e mostra sempre muita irreverência e provocação no seu trabalho, evocando a política, religião, sociedade e ambiente. Está representado a nível nacional e internacional em colecções privadas e arte pública. No seu currículo constam Bienais, Exposições e Prémios a nível nacional.
Born in Porto, in 1976, Gonçalo Martins currently lives in Madeira. With a degree in visual arts, he dedicated part of his life to art, namely shaping boards, painting and sculpturing. Gonçalo is perceived as a “Site Specific” intervention artist that always shows lots of irreverence and provocation in his work, evoking politics, religion, society and the environment. His work integrates national and international private collections and public art. His curriculum includes Exhibitions, Biennials and national awards.
Viagem da Fé - Nesta obra sigo a minha tempestade de interrogações, e mergulho na introspecção sobre este objecto peculiar e inconfundível desta época, associada à filosofia religiosa. Na realidade actual, os hipermercados e as Igrejas disputam clientela; a diferença é que eles oferecem produtos mais baratos, e elas prometem alívio ao sofrimento e salvação. Não sou fruto do demónio, devido a não saber a veracidade da sua existência; talvez seja plausível interrogar-me sobre a religião e a sua função na actualidade. A Igreja entrou na teologia da prosperidade aliada a uma viagem herege, decadente e teatral.
Journey of Faith - In this work I follow my own storm of questions; I dive in introspection about this distinctive and unmistakable object of this season, that’s associated to the religious philosophy. In the actual reality, supermarkets and churches vie for customers; the difference is that one of them offers cheaper products, while the other promises to relieve suffering, offering salvation. I’m not the fruit of the devil for not knowing the truth about his existence; it might be reasonable for me to question about religion and its role nowadays. The Church has entered a theology of prosperity, allied to a heretic, decadent and theatrical trip.
